Releasing Tension

If you find yourself needing more time to unwind at the end of your day, you may be holding unnecessary tension.

Allow some time throughout your day to "check in" to your body. Your eyes, jaws, shoulders, glutes and thighs tend to take a lot of strain. You can easily begin to relax any tensed muscles by simply bringing awareness to them. Take a break from the task at hand and try this simple exercise. In a comfortable, seated position bring your awareness to your jaw. Let the lower jaw relax and move slightly away from the upper jaw. Take in about 4 or 5 long, deep breaths. With every exhalation, imagine the stress melting away from the entire lower area of your face. This practice takes less than 2 minutes and when done regularly can save you more "unwinding" time in the long run.
